President Muhammadu Buhari is hosting the Extraordinary
Summit of the Economic Community of West African States
Authority of Heads of State and Government to mark its
40th Anniversary.
The main item on the agenda of the summit will be the
current political situation in Burkina Faso.
President Buhari has condemned the Coup D’etat in Burkina
Faso and called for immediate restoration of Civil
Transitional Authority.
He urged the Defence and Security Forces of Burkina Faso
to keep faith with the agreed transitional programme for the
return of the country to a democratic rule.
It is also expected that global issues like climate change
may be deliberated upon at the summit as a fall out of the
global summit on climate change which attracted world
leaders to France.
Heads of States of Government of the ECOWAS are expected
to start arriving at the summit venue from midday.
